where i am now

Lately, I haven’t been online as much. I’ve been even slower at responding to emails and tweets and comments, and I haven’t been accepting any new travel or speaking engagements this spring. I can finally tell you why (and also ask for your patience in the future as this will be a major–and wonderful!–adjustment for our family).

We have a new daughter! She came home yesterday and we are all completely smitten with her. We adopted her from China, and while I know many people have many opinions on adoption, we know this little girl is meant to be in our family and are so very, very grateful that she’s here. It has been a long process and it feels wonderful to have her in our arms.

I don’t post information/pics regarding my kids online (having a judge for a dad has made me all too aware of crazy things that can happen), but I can tell you that she’s an infant and that she is adorable. And I want to thank you all for your support! I am grateful for all of YOU blog readers and book readers as well.

Congratulations! I have 3 children adopted from China, although they were 1.5 years, 3.5 years, and 8 years when we got them. I am so happy for you. Met you in a bookstore in St. George and, if I’d known, I would have introduced you to a couple of my children, who were in the mall at the time! I am thrilled for you.

Wow! That is so wonderful! What a special announcement! Much more exciting than book news. 🙂

Your news made me think of my friend’s adoption blog therhouse.com — though she has open adoptions and I’m guessing if you went international to find your gem that you don’t have much contact with birth parents.

Best wishes with everything that goes along with becoming a mom (again)!

    February 13, 2012

    Dear Mrs. Condie:
My name is Crystal Russell, and I am an English teacher at Timken Senior High School in Canton, Ohio. For the past 10 years our school has embraced a literacy initiative that we have dubbed the All School Read.
This event is a two week event in which the entire school reads and discusses the same book. It has been designed to give students a choice in literature as well as an excitement for reading.
At the conclusion of this unit, we have been fortunate enough to have assemblies with authors of the books we have read.
My purpose for writing you is to ask if you would be willing to travel to Canton, Ohio to speak to and meet our students if they choose your book as this year’s all school read selection?
    Crystal Russell

Sorry to post on here. I was unable to find any other contact for you.

Congratulations! As a middle aged female adoptee myself, I whole heartedly support adoption. I am eternally grateful to both my birth mother (for the gift of life), and to my adopted mother (for raising me), as well as her continued financial support in these tough economic times.

Ally- I am so excited for you! I have 3 boys and one baby girl. I love my boys, but there is nothing like having a girl in the house. In fact, you may remember her. She was the only baby at Elaine’s house when you did the book signing in Cedar. So happy for you and your family!!!

I know my message is going up long after you posted your exciting news! I love hearing adoption stories. Adoption has played a major part in my extended family. My mother and her 3 younger siblings are all adopted. 5 of the 8 siblings in my husband’s family are also adopted.

My husband is one of the 5 who were adopted. He was 5 1/2 at the time (a Vietnam war orphan living in an orphanage south of Siagon). He remembers quite a bit about his adoption, including being told he was going to be adopted, seeing his dad for the first time as he got off the airplane, and being sealed to his parents.

My sister-in-law’s (my husband’s younger sister) youngest was adopted from China. It was such an amazing experience for the whole extended family; from seeing my niece’s picture for the 1st time, to holding her, to watching her be sealed to her parents.

Adoption is such an amazing thing! How our Father in Heaven works to ensure these sweet spirits end up with their family!
