spring break and spinach

I know it’s not technically spring or spring break but it’s the point in the year where I start pretending I’m in the picture above. In actuality I’m doing the usual (carpool, lunch-making, homework-helping, appointment-keeping, and WRITING). But then on Friday I take off for Raleigh and the last stop on the Breathless Reads tour!

I also have two great articles to share that featured MATCHED. The first was in the New York Times Magazine and I was thrilled that they included MATCHED as part of their roundup of YA dystopian novels in the market right now. Click here to read the article. The second was in the Ogden Standard-Examiner. Teen columnist Alexandra Burton interviewed me and she was delightful. Click here for that interview. She had a lot of great questions about how to fit in the writing process around being a mom.

And I wanted to give a heads-up that we’ve added another event on March 19, 2010. It’s here in Utah at the Orem Costco. I have never signed in Costco before. So please feel free to come by because if no one shows up I can’t promise you that I won’t go buy a big tub of their spinach artichoke dip and eat it all up. I am addicted to that stuff.

I’ve responded to all the comments in the last two posts–thank you so much. I know I’m not the best at replying but I truly appreciate your comments. If you’ve asked a question and I’ve missed it somehow please feel free to comment here.

If it were me, I would go buy a big thing of the Spinach Artichoke dip just because. πŸ™‚ Hmmm… now I find myself wishing I had a Costco nearby. I wish I still lived in Utah, crossing my fingers that I can convince my MIL to go to your Costco signing so I can have a signed copy of the book!

Debra, that would be so fun if your mom came! And I will tell her to send you some dip too. πŸ˜‰

Thanks, warnagirl! (Do I know your real name? Do we know each other in real life? I feel that we do but I can’t put it together.)

Costco must follow your blog, because when I was there today, they were giving out the yummy artichoke/spinach dip as a sample. After my five-year-old AND two-year-old ate it and begged for more, I caved and bought some. Now I think I need to throw a party to have everyone eat this.

    Have fun on your tour!

Julie, I think having a party is a great idea and dip is a great excuse. And congrats on your book coming out last month!!

I am so happy I get another chance to get my book signed and the 19th is my birthday so I should get to do whatever I want to do, so I keep telling my kids!
I am hosting my book club on Monday and I wondered if you had any great ideas since maybe you’ve heard or saw some fun things and you are an expert since you wrote the book πŸ™‚ I am having everyone wear their “plain clothes” and I am handing everyone their pills, and of coarse having it all decked out in green, I just wondered if there was any fun topics or anything that would be fun to talk about or do??? Thanks for writting that great book, I was really excited about it and cant wait to host it!

Wendy, that is so fun that your book club is doing Matched! I’m sorry I probably responded too late to be of any help. But, just in case, a book group I went to for Matched did a really cute thing and had us each bring one memento/artifact to talk about. I loved that.

Hey Ally, You live in the neighborhood I grew up in. My Mom is Gayle Corrigan, who has just lovely things to say about you. My Sister-in-law Elizabeth Broadbent was working in NYC over a year ago, sifting through millions of books for Penguin publishing when she came upon, “Matched”. She was on the team who snatched it up like a treasure and made sure it was brought to light. I remember her telling me about it then, still unsure what was to happen to it. She said, “If for some crazy reason it doesn’t get published, I’ll see if I can’t smuggle out a manuscript.” Joking of course, yet, ever sense I’ve been anticipating it. She also mentioned you might live in my old stomping grounds. So, alas I loved the book and am also hosting a book club for it in March. Maybe I’ll hand out pills and deck things in green, sounds fun. Hope to meet you on one of my many visits that way. Thanks for the great inspirations through out this site. I am going to “get in shape”, (as you put it), with my writing.

Hi Katie! Your parents are great. I don’t know them very well, but they always have a smile for my kids, which I love! Good luck with your writing!

Hey Ally! My daughter and I just finished your book and LOVED it. We are originally from UT but have ended up here in Mississippi. I just found out that you are scheduled to visit my daughter’s school, St. Andrew’s, in Ridgland MS in a couple of weeks and we are looking forward to meeting you!!! Will you be on a tight schedule? We’d love to offer you dinner out if you were interested! My daughter, Ashley is a 7th grader and has high hopes of being a writer one day!
