Learn more about WriteOut, a writing camp for teens founded by Ally that starts this summer in Cedar City, UT.

reading: hugo and flavia

This week my son and I are finishing up this book before he goes back to school:

It is awesome. I read it when it first came out and it is a lot of fun to share with him.

And, on my own, I’m reading this:

I’m in love with this series. It’s engaging and the main character (Flavia) is strong and it feels like a vacation to read it because I enjoy it so much…but I feel smart reading it just because the writing is so fantastic and clever. Alan Bradley=genius.

What are you reading these last summer days?

Our Very Fun Movie Preview program tells us of an upcoming film called HUGO. The poster has a key. We gasped. Held our breath. Could it be? Could it? Watched the preview.

Oh, it is. It is, and it looks LOVELY. Also, Jude Law. Just saying.

Perhaps we should make a date with sons.

I’m finishing up a series called “Pine Hollow” (The Saddle Club? Anybody know it?) and I have a book for book club called “The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks”… I think. I also still have to read my summer reading book for school, which is “The Hunger Games” 🙂

I just read the Flavia de Luce series in under 72 hours and now can’t wait for “I Am Half Sick of Shadows”. She’s just about the greatest main character in all of literature. But right now, I’m in the middle of “Far from the Madding Crowd” by Thomas Hardy.

I also really enjoyed Hugo Cabret; the use of the illustrations was brilliant. I just read The Giver finally for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed another dystopian read. The Flavia mysteries look quite interesting; thank you for sharing Ally!

I love that you’re reading Hugo with him! I was at the library earlier this week with my sister. We tried to pick up Hugo to read together but weren’t able to get it.

Hey Ally! Hope you’ve had a great summer. I’m just getting back into the swing of things (and blogger). My little gal and I just started a book of short stories (and something about killer hot dogs or something), should be fun. 😉
