Hey Ally, I read your interview on the Frenetic Reader, and I love the Martian Chronicles! I’m a former scientist, and I have a quote from that book somewhere about the Martians not separating art and science but blending them to make a beautiful whole… or something along those lines. (I guess I haven’t read it in a while!)
One Christmas my brother and I agreed to give each other books that we loved that the other had never read, and The Martian Chronicles was one of the ones I gave him. But he never made it all the way through – he found it too depressing. (I guess I like melancholy… Although he gave me Beloved, which is not exactly cheerful.) Anyway, what a wonderful choice of a short story to keep!
Also, I asked my local independent bookstore (Pudd’nhead Books in Webster Groves, MO) whether they’d have Matched available on its release date, and their YA person said, “Oh, yes! I’ve ordered the display! It really is as good as everyone says.” So I’m looking forward to next Tuesday.

Only eight more days. So is this kind of like when you were a kid looking forward to Christmas? Congratulations. I’ll be looking forward to getting the audio version to listen to in the car.

What an amazing countdown–I wouldn’t be able to sleep!

Book Depository emailed me yesterday to tell me that they’ll be shipping me my copy in the next couple of days. There was singing and dancing at our place!
