matched madness! and some q & a

Penguin Teen has declared March to be MATCHED MADNESS month! (I love Penguin Teen.) Click here on Penguin Teen’s facebook page for more info (you’ll have to scroll down a little to find the MATCHED MADNESS entry, but it’s there, I swear). To promote MATCHED this month, they’ve also made these awesome twibbons:

You can get yours here. And if you wonder why I don’t have my twibbon up on twitter yet, well, you and me both. I cannot figure out twitter sometimes. I’m working on it.

And now for a few questions and answers from the comments and my inbox:

Do you have any book group or book club discussion questions you can send me?

I don’t. That is something I would love to put together someday…when I have a bit more time. I love book groups (I’m in two of them and they are great fun). If I ever do put together some questions, I will be sure to post them here and in the FAQ. And a HUGE thank you to you for featuring MATCHED!

Anthony asked: How many times have you read Ayn Rand’s Anthem and Atlas Shrugged?

I actually haven’t read either of those books. I also haven’t read The Fountainhead. In fact, the only Ayn Rand I’ve read is We the Living. I know. It’s a bit disgraceful and I should definitely read more of her work.

When are you going to reveal the cover for CROSSED?

I don’t know…but rest assured that as soon as I have the go-ahead, I will post it here.

Can you come visit my school?

I love school visits, but I’m all booked up for the rest of this school year (I only do a set amount of school visits because I have to have time to write and also I am still home full-time with my kids, and arranging for a sitter can get tricky).

You’ve revealed a few songs from the CROSSED playlist on twitter. Will you post them on your blog too?

Yes! Two of the songs I loved while working on CROSSED are “In for the Kill” by La Roux and “Dustland Fairytale” by the Killers.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Thanks for stopping by.

Me too! I need to find some more songs of theirs….this is actually the only one I’m familiar with. My cousin made a CD for me and this was on it.

Hi Ally. I graduated from SUU- knew you for a short time at the bookstore. I picked your audio book off our library’s “new” books shelf, not recognizing your name then, just happy to find a book that sounded interesting. I finished reading “Matched” today and loved it! I didn’t know it was a trilogy, but realized it toward the end of the book- it wasn’t ending. I immediately searched online to find out more. I am sad to wait until November, and then another November to know the ending, but look forward to reading “Crossed” this fall. I am pleased to have a great book to recommend to friends and family.

I LOVE Dustland Fairytale! Haha just thought I’d say that. And while I’m just saying stuff, I think Matched was an amazing book and I can’t wait for Crossed πŸ™‚

I need to know about the green gown used in the picture. Where can I find it? Who made it? those types of things please and thank you. πŸ™‚

Kayla, I’m afraid I don’t know much about the green gown in the picture (and I get asked about it a lot, too, especially now that proms are coming up). I know it was the photographer’s own dress, and that it is actually white. The designers of the cover worked some Photo Shop (or similar) magic to make it that shade of green.

      Sorry I’m not more help!

Ally, I had the same thought as Anthony. I have read Anthem, by Ayn Rand, many times, and I get the same feeling reading MATCHED. In fact, as I read reviews of your book, comparing it to Lois Lowry et al., I thought the reviewers totally missed the mark by not mentioning Anthem. In the long list of dystopias out there, I think Anthem comes the closest to, er, matching (forgive the play on words) the spirit of your book. I would definitely recommend that you take a look at it if you get the chance.

BTW, sorry about BYU, but they gave it a good run in the tournament. I have a colleague in Orem who’s an alum, and we did a lot of emailing about those games. I was rooting for BYU all the way (and I live in the Midwest)!

I don’t have any questions or anything really. I just wanted to talk to the author of the AMAZING book Matched. I love you book so so so oh so much. I really hope that it becomes a movie. And my biggest wish is for me to play her. Just because I love it a lot. I can’t wait until the sequel comes out. I’d be sad and happy at the same time if the movie came on and I wasn’t playing as Cassia but it’s okay! I cant even really tell you how much I love you book. Lol. You are a wonderful writer Ms.Condie.
