five things on a tuesday

Currently reading: In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez

1. Thanks for everyone’s great comments on last week’s conversation! I think next time we’ll talk about the most-requested topic: How do you know when a draft is “finished,” or ready to submit? The other questions on the list are discussions about revision and poetry. If there’s anything else you’d like to see, please please please feel free to post it in the comments here!

2. The Writing for Charity event was wonderful. So many people excited about getting books into kids’ hands. This is a yearly event, started by the lovely Shannon Hale, and if you are anywhere in the area, please come next year!

3. I just heard from my agent that we have now sold MATCHED in 25 foreign countries. This is thanks to the fantastic foreign rights’ team at Writers House and I am very, very thrilled.

4. I am tired today. Are you tired?

5. We’re going to be revamping the site a bit in the next few weeks, just FYI. So if you come visit and everything is a mess, just pretend it never happened and come back again soon. 🙂

I vote for topic 1, knowing when to submit! Cause it seems like submitting too early is a big problem.

Writing for Charity was great! I will post about it later today if I have time! Hooray for getting books in the hands of kids!

    Yay! 25 countries is amazing!

I am tired. Must be a Tuesday thing.

Yay for blog re-vamping! Mine is having a total overhaul too next week and I can’t wait!

The Writing for Charity event was awesome. My husband and I only got to go to the morning part, but it was still a great time. I hope next year we can make it to the whole thing!

That is great that Matched will be in 25 countries!!

    And I’m tired too.

Wow, 25 countries is amazing! Congratulations on the awesome news.

I really enjoyed the Writing for Charity event. It’s always fun to chat with such awesome authors!

Also, I just finished reading “Matched” and I am completely amazed. Your writing was so lovely, and I was pleased to see the integration of one of my very favorite poems into the story. I will be buying a copy as soon as it comes out so I can share it with everyone!

Congrats Ally! I’m resisting the urge to read the ARC right now, since the UK edition releases in December and I want the story fresh in my mind when I write the review in November. The book you’re reading now looks cute. 🙂

Congratulations on foreign rights! That’s simply amazing. :]

I’m definitely looking forward to the next topic: knowing when to submit. I’m the sort of writer who keeps tinkering and fiddling with a manuscript forever.

    25? Twenty-five? That’s a lot. Did you know?

I loved that Alvarez book. We should talk when you’re finished.

Hi Ally, I’m new to reading your blog. I have heard so many good things about Matched from my writers’ group girls who have been passing around an ARC of it. I’m looking forward to reading it too.

In the Time of the Butterflies is one of my all time favorite books. I think Julia Alvarez is such a beautiful writer, hope you enjoy it too and congrats on your book being sold in so many countries.
